Q: What is one part of your style that has stayed consistent even while everything else has changed?
…My wardrobe has expanded, but I haven’t left the sweatsuits, baggy clothes or simple pieces behind. They sit alongside everything new I’ve picked up along the way. Maybe that is why I find it difficult to define my style with one aesthetic. I don’t think everything I wear needs to fit neatly into one. Maybe personal style isn’t about finally choosing a character and sticking with it. Maybe it’s getting comfortable enough with yourself to keep customizing.

Q:Are there parts of your personality that only really come out through the way you dress?
I think the parts of my personality that come through most in the way I dress are probably my confidence and my more playful, expressive side. I wouldn’t say I’m someone who thinks about fashion all the time, but sometimes a shirt, a pair of shoes, or one small thing can bring out a side of me that I might not show right away otherwise. I don’t take it too seriously either, I like having fun with what I wear and more than anything, looking in the mirror and feeling like myself…
If I had to say what influences my style the most right now, though, I think it would be comfort and confidence. I want to wear things that feel natural on me while still making me feel like I look good. Obviously, a lot of my idea of what “looks good” has been shaped by the internet and media, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with admitting that.
The difference now is that I’m not trying to recreate someone else’s entire aesthetic. I’m taking inspiration from what I see and filtering it through myself. I’ve also stopped putting so much pressure on myself to dress a certain way or have a perfectly defined aesthetic. At the end of the day, they’re clothes. I think what makes an outfit memorable is just as much the person wearing it, their confidence, swagger, energy, and the way they carry themselves, as the actual clothes…

Q: If someone looked through your wardrobe five years from now, what would you want it to say about who you became?
I think a lot of what's in there exists because of the standards I was trying to meet, not because I chose it as a way to be unique or represent myself. Social media plays a huge part in that — a lot of my closet exists because of whatever was considered "cool" at the time, shaped by trends and influencers rather than my own taste. It's easy to buy into what everyone else is wearing or what's going viral without even realizing that's what you're doing, chasing what other people like instead of using clothing to actually express yourself and shape your own character….
